A Tribute to My Mom

Today is my mom’s birthday. I hope you don’t mind but I wanted to share a little insight to the kind of lady my mom was.
As a little girl mom would make peanut butter sandwiches… cut off the crust and make them into finger sandwiches. I would set up my stuffed animals, tea set, and Mom would join me. Together, with my shaggy brown bear and my Barbie (who had no clothes), we would have the best time sipping 'our tea' and practicing our manners.

When I had my daughters it was mom who gave them their first tea set. She would have tea with them the same way she had tea with me. I loved how they were smiling and laughing together. She would tell them stories of woman in the Bible.  Bringing the women to life and encouraging her granddaughters to become the very best they could be.

Mom used our tea parties to teach us what being a true lady was...
  • Generously kind
  • Compassionate to others
  • An encourager
  • And above all, represent Christ in, not just the way we acted, but how we present ourselves to others.

Mom loved teas because it was a time for ladies to be ladies, and friends to be friends. It was a time to laugh and to bond with others.
Mom adored the hats, the china, and even liked the prep work to host a tea.

She loved when the ladies she hosted felt special because of the care she took to prepare the decorations and food to perfection.

“Teas are a chance to bless someone”, she would say, “To make them feel special and important.”

Mom also said, “Laurie Lar when you make people feel special you are sharing the love of Jesus. That's our most important job.”

A life lesson I will always remember. I adored my mom and the lady she was. When you left her presence you felt uplifted. I pray to follow in her footsteps.

Enjoy your celebration today, mom, in the presence of our Lord and where birthday cake calories don’t matter…heaven indeed!

Happy birthday Mom! You are loved and missed terribly.
