New Holiday Series
Starting this weekend



It's officially fall!! I love this time of year with it's crisp cool mornings and gorgeous colors all around. Holidays are just around the corner and that means LOTS of baking, comfort food, and family time. 

I wanted to give you a rundown of the series I am planning for the next few months. My hope/goal is to make the holiday season less stressful and more enjoyable for you and your loved ones. 

The Great Pumpkin always visits Baba & Papa's house

In October we will be preparing and getting organized for the holidays. Of course that starts in the kitchen. We will take it week by week, preparing our kitchen for the cooking and baking that's about to "go down" this holiday season. (I feel I should shout 'Lets get ready to rumble!!') 😉 I will also be sharing various fall recipes that your family will love and are easy to make. 

Thanksgiving desserts!

In November we will plan our Thanksgiving menu, decor, and much more. I will share some family recipes that are easy, budget friendly and will make your family Thanksgiving over the top incredible. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and I go all out for my family.  I can't wait to share my ideas with you.

In December we will be baking cookies, decorating our home and enjoying our family. I will be posting budget friendly recipes, ideas for gifts, decor, and more. 

Don't let the holidays stress you out. Let's take it step by step and together we can have our best family holiday season yet.

Fried chicken I've had many requests from friends and family for my fried chicken recipe.  On the rare occasions that we had left-overs, Smokin would bring some to work to share with his friends.  The guys would practically fight each other for some. The key to my fried chicken is bacon fat!! You don’t need a whole lot but you need enough to flavor the frying oil.  So as much as it may stink you’re going to have to cook up bacon to save the fat. (life’s tough all over ;) If you need help eating the bacon I can come on over)  Also, I use boneless skinless chicken breasts that I’ve cut into strips because I don’t like the dark meat. However, If you do like the dark meat then I suggest boneless chicken thighs (with or without the skin).   However, this is so good you'll never miss the skin.  Soak your chicken (about 3 pounds) for about 1-2 hours in buttermilk.  You can skip this part but it makes the chicken so tender and juicy. Hot Dogs!!! Everyone loves a good hotdog and everyone has their favorite way of topping a hotdog. I am going to give you our family's top 3. There really isn't a 'wrong' way to top your hotdog. It's all by personal preference BUT if you are looking to mix things up a bit here are a few  alternatives. Also, I want to add that a good, quality hot dog is key to having great flavor! The Classic Chili Cheese dog kicked up a notch ... Being from Southern California we love a little heat in our foods. So take your grilled hot dog and... Place thinly sliced jalapeño and finely chopped onion on the dog  Top with your favorite chili (my homemade chili is a favorite but we ate it already so canned it is).  Instead of shredded cheddar try shredded pepper jack.   Place under broiler for a couple minutes till cheese has melted. Keep a constant eye on it so the bun doesn't burn. This has so much flavor and a nice, spicy kick from the jal

Chicken Love Soup I love scooping the soup up with these chips! Is there anything better than a nice warm cup of soup?  I love soup on a cold winter day. Snuggled up on the couch, watching a good movie, and enjoying a delicious cup of soup is a bit of heaven of earth, in my opinion. Only thing that would make it more cozy is big fluffy snow flakes falling outside.   My foodie friend Robyn is the inspiration for this yummy warming soup. This is actually my all time favorite soup.  I have just tweaked it a little for my family, but I'll link her original recipe here... h ttp://housewifecooking.blogspot.com/2009/04/creamy-tortilla-soup.html Robyn's original recipe includes how she makes fresh tortilla strips.  I use the Garden of Eatin Red Hot Blue Corn Chips. Beware they are addicting.   Here's my spin on Chicken LOVE Soup... You will need... 3 Shallots, peeled and chopped 1 c Red Onion, diced 1 T. Vegetable Oil  4 15 oz.
