Hot Dog Heaven!!




Everyone loves a good hotdog and everyone has their favorite way of topping a hotdog. I am going to give you our family's top 3. There really isn't a 'wrong' way to top your hotdog. It's all by personal preference BUT if you are looking to mix things up a bit this summertime here are a few alternatives. Also, I want to add that a good, quality hot dog is key to having great flavor!

The Classic Chili Cheese dog kicked up a notch...



Being from Southern California we love a little heat in our foods. So take your grilled hot dog and...




  • Place thinly sliced jalapeño and finely chopped onion on the dog 
  • Top with your favorite chili (my homemade chili is a favorite but we ate it already so canned it is). 
  • Instead of shredded cheddar try shredded pepper jack.  
  • Place under broiler for a couple minutes till cheese has melted. Keep a constant eye on it so the bun doesn't burn.


This has so much flavor and a nice, spicy kick from the jalapeño.

We used to have in our small Kentucky town, a restaurant named 'Hot Dog Heaven'. For the hot dog lover it truly was heaven on earth! They made a Rueben dog that was an instant hit with my Dad and I. So simple but SO delicious. Here's how to make it...


  • Place your hot dog in the bun then top with sauerkraut.
  • Then add shredded Swiss cheese 
  • Drizzle on 1000 island dressing
  • A few shakes of celery salt.

 
    I'm not a sauerkraut fan but this is so good. Every time I eat it I want to close my eyes and take a moment to thank the Lord. ðŸ˜‰ (What can I say I love good food!)

    Lar's Ultimate 'Shut The Front Door' Hot Dog



    This is the preferred topping method in our family. It has so many flavors but they tie in perfectly.  This is also amazing with Bratwurst or Hot Italian Sausage!!



    • On the bun, spread some mayonnaise on the inside of the it. Don't judge just do it! 😎
    • Place a piece of cooked bacon on one side. Or both sides if you want to live your best life!
    • Place hot dog in the bun. Snuggled up cozy with the bacon.
    • Top with mustard, ketchup, finely chopped onion and pickled jalapeño. 
    • Sprinkle on some celery salt and enjoy. 

    My mouth is watering just thinking about these toppings. Can't wait for Memorial Day!!

    Fried chicken I've had many requests from friends and family for my fried chicken recipe.  On the rare occasions that we had left-overs, Smokin would bring some to work to share with his friends.  The guys would practically fight each other for some. The key to my fried chicken is bacon fat!! You don’t need a whole lot but you need enough to flavor the frying oil.  So as much as it may stink you’re going to have to cook up bacon to save the fat. (life’s tough all over ;) If you need help eating the bacon I can come on over)  Also, I use boneless skinless chicken breasts that I’ve cut into strips because I don’t like the dark meat. However, If you do like the dark meat then I suggest boneless chicken thighs (with or without the skin).   However, this is so good you'll never miss the skin.  Soak your chicken (about 3 pounds) for about 1-2 hours in buttermilk.  You can skip this part but it makes the chicken so tender and juicy.     Chicken Love Soup I love scooping the soup up with these chips! Is there anything better than a nice warm cup of soup?  I love soup on a cold winter day. Snuggled up on the couch, watching a good movie, and enjoying a delicious cup of soup is a bit of heaven of earth, in my opinion. Only thing that would make it more cozy is big fluffy snow flakes falling outside.   My foodie friend Robyn is the inspiration for this yummy warming soup.
