2017 Fall Home Decor
Inspirational sayings are one of my favorite ways to decorate.

The change of seasons; especially Summer to Fall is magical. I love when the temperatures cool, the apple cider is warming, and the coziness of Fall has taken over the house. It is also time for my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving. I love preparing for the feast and watching my family and friends enjoying the food and company.

The first thing I do to prepare for the season change is decorate my house. My Fall home décor is a relatively new thing for me.   I used to just decorate my kitchen table but now I like to put touches here and there, mostly in the common areas.

When decorating, I have found 3 tips that make preparing my home for Fall much easier.


Tip 1: Budget and Bargains

If you are just starting out decorating for Fall, or any season for that matter, you don’t want to wind up in the poor house. Build your décor collection over time. Set a dollar amount and stick to it.
Look for bargains and NEVER, EVER pay full price. Hobby Lobby, Wal-Mart, & Michaels are great places to start and always have great deals. If you have a Dollar Tree they also have some great stuff.

Tip 2: Find your Style

Life is too short to not have your home a reflection of you and your family.  Make sure your décor is something that makes you feel happy.

For example, I enjoy décor that has inspirational sayings.  I find them encouraging and something that brings me joy. These are reminders to be thankful and to count my blessings.

Candles are a great way to make your home cozy.
I also like to use candles; Leaves from Bath and Body Works and Apple Spice from Yankee Candle are awesome! The smell of Fall candles is a great way to make your house transform into a cozy home.
If you have décor that doesn’t bring you joy then give it away. Don’t just put it up for the sake of having décor.

Tip 3: Keep It Simple

It’s always good, when decorating, to remember that there is a fine line between transforming your home for the season and cluttering up your home.  You don’t have to decorate every room. If just starting out then start with a common area. Like I said, for many years I only decorated the kitchen table with décor.

Like I mentioned, your home should bring you joy. Whether you are in a studio apartment, condo, or house enjoy what you have. My goal as a mom and wife was to provide a safe haven for my family. To make it a soft place to land when the world of craziness has become overwhelming.  During that time of raising our girls we lived in apartments, trailer, farmhouse, townhouse, and houses. It doesn’t matter where you live or the type of dwelling. What matters most is being thankful for what and who you have.

Fried chicken I've had many requests from friends and family for my fried chicken recipe.  On the rare occasions that we had left-overs, Smokin would bring some to work to share with his friends.  The guys would practically fight each other for some. The key to my fried chicken is bacon fat!! You don’t need a whole lot but you need enough to flavor the frying oil.  So as much as it may stink you’re going to have to cook up bacon to save the fat. (life’s tough all over ;) If you need help eating the bacon I can come on over)  Also, I use boneless skinless chicken breasts that I’ve cut into strips because I don’t like the dark meat. However, If you do like the dark meat then I suggest boneless chicken thighs (with or without the skin).   However, this is so good you'll never miss the skin.  Soak your chicken (about 3 pounds) for about 1-2 hours in buttermilk.  You can skip this part but it makes the chicken so tender and juicy. Hot Dogs!!! Everyone loves a good hotdog and everyone has their favorite way of topping a hotdog. I am going to give you our family's top 3. There really isn't a 'wrong' way to top your hotdog. It's all by personal preference BUT if you are looking to mix things up a bit here are a few  alternatives. Also, I want to add that a good, quality hot dog is key to having great flavor! The Classic Chili Cheese dog kicked up a notch ... Being from Southern California we love a little heat in our foods. So take your grilled hot dog and... Place thinly sliced jalapeño and finely chopped onion on the dog  Top with your favorite chili (my homemade chili is a favorite but we ate it already so canned it is).  Instead of shredded cheddar try shredded pepper jack.   Place under broiler for a couple minutes till cheese has melted. Keep a constant eye on it so the bun doesn't burn. This has so much flavor and a nice, spicy kick from the jal

Chicken Love Soup I love scooping the soup up with these chips! Is there anything better than a nice warm cup of soup?  I love soup on a cold winter day. Snuggled up on the couch, watching a good movie, and enjoying a delicious cup of soup is a bit of heaven of earth, in my opinion. Only thing that would make it more cozy is big fluffy snow flakes falling outside.   My foodie friend Robyn is the inspiration for this yummy warming soup. This is actually my all time favorite soup.  I have just tweaked it a little for my family, but I'll link her original recipe here... h ttp://housewifecooking.blogspot.com/2009/04/creamy-tortilla-soup.html Robyn's original recipe includes how she makes fresh tortilla strips.  I use the Garden of Eatin Red Hot Blue Corn Chips. Beware they are addicting.   Here's my spin on Chicken LOVE Soup... You will need... 3 Shallots, peeled and chopped 1 c Red Onion, diced 1 T. Vegetable Oil  4 15 oz.
